- Best: Sep – mid-Oct
Quote with your itinerary
Chamba to Killar over Sach Pass is about 166 km and one of Himachal’s toughest drives. The pass is open only from about July to mid-October and the road is rough near the top, so we send a high-clearance SUV and break the journey at Bairagarh, where we run Diwan Sachpass.
Distances are approximate. Fares include fuel and driver. Tolls, parking and state entry taxes are shown separately in your quote.
0 km
Heritage town on the Ravi with the Chaugan and old temples.
63 km · ~1,570 m
Market town and the last big fuel and supply stop.
90 km · ~2,800 m
The last village before the climb. A night at Diwan Sachpass means an early start for the pass.
106 km · ~3,400 m
A glacier, snow walls and the steepest part of the climb.
120 km · ~4,414 m
A small temple, prayer flags and wide views over the Pir Panjal.
166 km · ~2,590 m
The main town of Pangi Valley, reached through Bagotu.
6 seats · 4 bags. Spiti, Kunzum and Sach Pass. Needed for high passes.
Leave Bairagarh at first light, when the streams near the top run lower.
Before each departure we check the road and any registration the Chamba district administration or local police require.
The pass can close at short notice. Keep a day in hand; if it shuts, we re-route you and sort out your night’s stay.
It can be done in one long day when the road is good, but we suggest a night at Bairagarh (about 2,800 m) and an early start for the pass.
A high-clearance SUV, such as an Innova Crysta or Scorpio. Near the top the road is narrow and unpaved, with snow walls early in the season and stream crossings.
Usually from late June or early July to mid-October. September to mid-October often has the clearest weather and driest road.
