It’s the shortest road into Pangi, and the toughest. Near the top the road is narrow and unpaved, with snow walls early in the season and stream crossings. Go in a high-clearance vehicle or on a motorcycle, and start early, when the streams run lower. ## The route, stage by stage - **Chamba**: Heritage town on the Ravi with the Chaugan and old temples. Gateway to the pass. - **Tissa** (~1,570 m): Market town and the last big fuel and supply stop. - **Bairagarh** (~2,800 m): The last village before the climb, and home of our hotel Diwan Sachpass. - **Satrundi** (~3,400 m): A glacier, snow walls and the steepest section of the climb. - **Sach Pass top** (~4,414 m): A small temple, prayer flags and wide views over the Pir Panjal. - **Killar** (~2,590 m): The main town of Pangi Valley, reached through Bagotu. ## Best time to go - **Opening, Late June – August:** Snow walls at the top early in the season. July–August monsoon can bring rain and landslides. - **Best, September – mid-October:** Often the clearest weather and driest roads. Snow can still return at any time. - **Closed, Mid-October – June:** Closed by snow.
